Policy to Practice: Rights and Obligations if Immigration Officials Enter Your Workplace

As a human resources professional, what are the employee (and company) rights and obligations in the event of an ICE investigation?  

In a recent hearing, Todd Lyons, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Director, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), testified that over 475,000 removals from the country have occurred during the last year.  

8 U.S.C. Section 1324 of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, states it is unlawful to employ anyone who is unauthorized to work. The law requires employers to verify the employment authorization of all employees (but not contractors) through the completion of the Employment Eligibility Verification form (I-9 form).  

How can employers be proactive and develop a plan to protect employees and company rights?
