How Global Recession Impacts Employee Performance

Reports about a potential global recession are in the news every day, and your employees likely are worried about it. In fact, according to ResumeLab, 82 percent of the 1,000 employees that participated in a recent survey believe there will be a recession in 2022.

The survey also found that:

  • 86 percent of survey participants somewhat or strongly agree that the possibility of a recession “scares me”
  • 58% of those surveyed believe that they are likely to lose their job in the next six months
  • 8 out of 10 respondents are looking for a new job now because of the potential recession

Stress about the economy has been proven in numerous studies to increase absenteeism and lower innovation. As an HR professional, you have an opportunity – and an obligation – to reach out to your workforce to gauge their levels of stress not only for them but also for your company.

You can learn more how to accomplish these types of HR management and leadership in courses offered on the HRCI Learning Center.

We also will have an upcoming Alchemizing HR presentation on Identifying Financial Stress in Employees, in which Fearless Finance Founder Lori Atwood will outline signs of stress and share tips on how you can help them alleviate it.
