Standards are Important to HR Data Collection for Regulatory Reporting

Collecting and analyzing workforce data is an important part of an HR professional’s role as a strategist, planner and business leader. Today, much of that data – and more – must be shared with external audiences due to regulatory reporting mandates in the United States and Europe.
The European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), for example, requires companies to disclose data on topics, such as human rights, environmental impacts and climate change. In the United States, the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC’s) proposed climate-related disclosure rules would impose new ESG reporting requirements on U.S.-based companies. Other regulations, such as Germany’s Supply Chain Act and the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, are focused on responsible sourcing and human rights.
HR professionals can actively support their organizations by ensuring the data they collect is pertinent to, and included in, these and other mandated reports. However, determining what to collect and how to do so effectively and efficiently may present a challenge. A great resource is the Organization for International Standards (ISO) 30414:2018 Human Resource Management (HRM) - Guidelines for internal and external human capital reporting (HCR), which offers guidelines surrounding reporting clusters and offers standards for measuring and reporting the contributions of an organization’s workforce.
ISO 30414:2018 includes 11 reporting clusters, such as compliance & ethics; costs; diversity; leadership; organization culture; organization health, safety & well-being; productivity; recruitment, mobility & turnover; and others.
