Ways To Recertify

After completing a minimum of 60 HR-related recertification activities or continuing education programs, you may submit your application and payment for recertification to HRCI®.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • You have an HRCI online account profile where you can record your recertification activities.
  • HRCI recommends recording your activities in your account profile as you complete them.
  • HRCI will not review your activities until we receive your application and payment.
  • Your application must be submitted in English.

*Effective January 2021, all certificants are required to fulfill one ethics credit during their three-year recertification cycle. This one ethics credit is included in the required 45/60 recertification credits requirement.

Recert Breakdown

Recertify by Exam

Most certified HR professionals prefer to recertify their HRCI® credential through continuing professional development. Some professionals, however, prefer to recertify by retaking the exam. Follow these steps to recertify by exam:

  • Fill out and submit an exam application by logging into your online account profile.
  • Take the exam before your certification cycle ends.
  • Recertify only at your current certification level.
  • Wait at least 12 months from your beginning certification date before you take the test.
  • Adhere to the same exam-application policies and procedures and pay the same fees as first-time exam takers.
HRCI will review all recertification-by-exam applications.

Recertify by Provider

When recertifying through an HRCI Provider, please make sure to:

  1. Note the Activity ID number (e.g. 012345), also known as a Program Code or Recertification Credit.
  2. Submit the Activity ID (e.g. 012345) into your HRCI.org account in order to receive credit for completing an activity.
