I felt that earning an HR certification would be a great investment in my career, my livelihood and my future. I wanted to be certain to remain as competitive as possible within the HR profession. Since earning my PHR certification, I feel a greater sense of confidence in me from my executive management team and colleagues. They know I have the expert knowledge, and this lead to my promotion to the role of HR director. I am confident that the PHR letters behind my name allow me to stand head and shoulders above my peers without HR certification.

I found myself out of a job for the first time in my life. I interviewed for a particular position three times and was certain it was mine. Ultimately, I did not get the job and discovered it was because the other “front runner” was a certified HR professional. At that moment, I vowed that losing a potential position due to the lack of HR certification would never happen to me again. Earning my SPHR has brought about a formal credibility factor that I never experienced before. After obtaining my SPHR, I was promoted twice in three years, and I attribute this greatly to attaining my SPHR credentials.

I have been an HR professional for 12 years, but it wasn’t until the economy took a down turn that I truly understood the importance of HR certification. During this time, I found myself unemployed and looking for a new job. Companies were not interested in hiring me without a college degree, even with my many years of practical HR experience. That is when I realized that many job descriptions were calling for a BS/BA or PHR/SPHR certification to qualify for the position. I was immediately motivated. Earning my PHR validated my knowledge and experience to potential employers. It was amazing how quickly I received a job offer after obtaining my PHR certification.
