Each time we update an exam's content, we convene a standards-setting panel to determine the passing score.

The panel reviews the exam to determine the number of questions that a minimally qualified candidate must correctly answer to pass the exam.

The panel uses at least two methods to estimate the difficulty of questions and exams. The panel then analyzes the results of each method and we decide the passing score based on the panel's recommendation. These tested, respected and long-standing methods ensure the reliability of the passing score for all of our exams.
