As we continue our review of comments from hundreds of HR professionals who hold our PHR®, SPHR®, GPHR®, California, HRBP℠ or HRMP℠ credentials, we learn more about the traits and attributes that are held or exhibited by those who hold certification. This month we focus on “trust and development,” because we hear more and more that in certification not only offers development to the person becoming certified, but it also opens doors to career development. When it comes to trust, certified HR professionals find that their letters instill trust in them from their colleagues and peers and offers them a level of trust in others who hold certification. Here’s what some of them said:
Certification is a quick measurement to all who view me as a human resource professional and is proof positive of my development as a human resource professional.
As the Human Resources Specialist for more than 400 Project Managers and Business Consultants who are all seasoned executives who perceive themselves reasonably knowledgeable in ‘personnel’ matters, the SPHR certification is the first step in gaining their trust in my ability to assist them in their projects.
My certification has allowed me advancement opportunities and new assignments within my organizations as well as established career development opportunities for future advancement.
Certifying in HR is no different from certifying for any professional license (from commercial pilot to CPA): it keeps you current, verifies your willingness to continue learning the profession and provides your bosses, colleagues and customers an initial level of trust and confidence.
Having the professional designation of PHR is an outward sign of my inward dedication to the Human Resources field and the people I am trusted to serve every day.
Does your certification offer you development opportunities or has it helped you gain the trust of your colleagues? Tell us about it here.
