Hosetta Coleman  Why did I decide to obtain my HR certification?

To remain on the leading edge of my field. The certification and ongoing recertification add validation to the level of expertise I possess. The credentials after my name state that I am a self-assured executive and role model. It has been eight years since earning my SPHR credentials, and I have not regretted my choice.

Wondering why you should earn an HR certification?

Maybe you are having a hard time deciding which certification is right for you or don’t know how to get started. Leave your questions and comments and I will be happy to share my experience and advice with you.

Looking forward to connecting with my HR peers.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for seeking out more information regarding preparation for the certification process.
I utilized the SHRM study material and participated in a study group organized thru the local SHRM chapter in my area. In addition, I utilized the pre test CD to gauge my depth of knowledge in a particular focus area. I then targeted my study to the areas highlighted via this medium which needed the most attention.

The ability to complete the pre test periodically helped me to track my progress.

I also tape recorded myself reviewing particularly difficult information like dates and listened to it as I drove to work or exercised.

Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.

last fall I took classes at a local community college in healthcare administration so i could become more marketable in that field. I just found a job and they hired me, the course helped attain the HR Manager position. Do these class count towards re-certification?

I am impressed by your forethought in taking the class. What an excellent idea! Congratulations on your new job in the healthcare industry!

To know whether the courses are appropriate for recertification credit, we would need some more information from you. Can you tie course content directly to your role as an HR Manager? If so, then there is an opportunity for recertification credit. We would need to know what the specific course content is and how you have used it in your HR role. Give us a call and ask to speak with a Recertification Specialist. 866-898-4724.

I went to the SHRM conference in SD this year and attended all of the strategic sessions I could to attain the 15 hours I need for recertification. Can I list the hours, or do I need to go back and enter each course individually?
