Work Ahead to Obtain Approved-for-Credit Status

The HRCI Approved-for-Credit program provides one-time pre-approval for HR-related continuing education programs, such as workshops and seminars. Many of these programs are presented by SHRM chapters. If you are a presenter or organizer, use these tips to ensure timely approval of your program:
  • Work well in advance. You should submit the program description at least four weeks prior to the event. (You’ll boost your promotions by obtaining approval as early as possible. Once approved, but not before, you may use the HRCI Approved-for-Credit seal in your promotional materials. SHRM certification directors recently told us how clearly registrations increase once the seal is displayed.)
  • Provide as much detail as possible about the program’s content and timeframe.
  • Do not delay an application because you don’t have a complete bio for the presenter. Describe the speaker’s expertise in one or two sentences, and concentrate on program content details.
  • Designate one person to submit all of your chapter’s Approved-for-Credit requests. This person should be the "keeper" of the chapter’s Approved-for-Credit account number.
  • All SHRM chapters already should have an account set up. If you don’t know your chapter's assigned account number, request it by calling HRCI at 1-866-898-HRCI (4724). Please don't go online and request an account. This only causes duplicate accounts and confuses the process. Other organizations that are submitting programs for the first time should set up an account, then use that same account number for future submissions.
